QPR appears this season for the first time in 15 years of the Premier League with Norwich having an absence of 6. Swansea became the first Welsh-based team to enter the EPL and hopes are high for the team to do well against defending champions Manchester United. Man Utd having won 12 Premier Leagues, totaling a devastating 19 league championships thus far.
The Premier League, established in 1992, sported 22 teams of the then – English First Division, forming their own league. With an eye on having a bigger share of the sponsorship money, the newly established league commercialized their teams by breaking away and forming the EPL, having had sponsorship every season since 1993, it grew and gave fans what they wanted. Pressure from FIFA to reduce the number of member's in the league, the Premier League was scaled down to 20 members from the first 22 teams back in 1995. FIFA, still displeased with the numbers, gave lee-way as the league decided to drop the “FA” from it's name and became known as the Barclays Premier League (Sponsorship forcing the plain “Premier League” name change)
Each Premier League club plays 38 games, playing every other team home and away. The teams with the most points becomes the Premier League Champion and qualifies automatically for the following season in the Champions League. The next 3 teams on the leaderboard also have a shot at Champions League football, either by direct qualification or via the qualifying rounds. The 6th football team wins a place in the Europa League. Depending on the winners of the League and the FA Cup, the team placed 7th may also receive a place in the Europa League.
